Studio Portraits The lighting in the photo that I chose is bright and from the left of the image. This casts a nice shadow on the side of his face when he is looking down. The photo focuses on his head, but at the same time you can also see his torso a bit. His head is looking down and is turned down in alignment with his body. The angle of the camera was above him and to the right, yet keeping him the focus of the image. The image is a horizontal picture which captures a lot of his figure. All of these components together makes him look sad, but you cant tell what he is sad about. He could also be tired, which we know fits his personality. Compared to the image to the left of the one i chose, it definitely supports the idea of having a sad image. Though in that photo you can almost tell that the frown has a bit of humor behind it. The images are both taken at an angle, which adds interest when its accompanied by shadows.

Hey, Not every photo makes it out to the world. Luckily, These images were just good enough to be published in the Extra Images section. These images were some that I thought had great potential in being the Spotlight image, but in the end there is only one winner.

Emulation For my Emulation I chose a photographer who shares the same common interest I have, and that is hunting. Tosh Brown takes pictures of Hunting and fishing themes. Tosh is from Austin, Texas and has taken many pictures for LL Bean, Field & Stream, Outside Magazine, The Sportsman Channel, The Fly Fish Journal, Outdoor Life and many more.
Source: http://toshbrown.com/about/ To capture the glowing affect of the light illuminating the tent was near impossible with the conditions around me. Improvising, I decided that casting my shadow using my lamp in my room would work the best. The angle of the lamp comes in from the left of the camera view. I am standing to the left, outside the image as well. My shadow is actually on my bedroom mattress which I placed vertically to get a white backdrop. This allowed me to get a similar look and texture to the tent in the original image, minus the glowing effect. This was extremely hard to Emulate because casting the shadow at an angle to match something that originally was not a shadow is difficult. I took many approaches in creating this final product. I had to photo shop some of the edges around my shadow to increase the sharpness of it. I also balanced the Contrast to make my shadow stick out more. If I had to do this Emulation all over again I would definitely try using an actual tent to get an accurate display of the shadow displayed. I would also angle my Bow a little better to match the originals angles. This took me much longer to accomplish due to limitations in many areas. With no one else helping me take my photo, I had to download a timer app on my phone and rush to my position and pose. Having an extra person there would have made this process much simpler and it would have had a much nicer outcome. |
Accidental Emulation
For a few extra images, I decided to post an image that I took recently that matched up almost perfectly with another image I found from another photographer. I took this image of by dog because I was simply in a mood to take photos of my pets. When researching for a photographer to emulate, I came across the image on the right, which is by Bill Buckley. Bill Buckley has a website, but he has no personal information about himself on it. I decided to scrap the idea completely when I came across Tosh Brown and his Hunting Bow image.
My Dad This is a simple image of my dad reading. It's not too complex, and it captures what he usually does when there is nothing to do, and that is read. The location of this image is New Hampshire, and the natural light wasn't strong enough because it was cloudy.
My dad is the first one in this list because he has been my motivation ever since I was a kid. My mom calls me his clone because everything that I've done relates to things he did growing up as well. When my dad was my age, we also looked exactly alike. We have very similar personalities, but as I've grown up I've discovered that we have very different point of views on many topics. No matter what, he always seems to motivate me to try harder at what I'm doing. |
Lindsay is also here not just because she is my sister but because she has been someone who I can relate to, even though we are polar opposites. Growing up, we use to hate each other and would fight over simple things just to get the other in trouble. Now she's someone to go to for help with something that she has been through already. She definitely helps me out in life, no matter if it was a stupid fight or some advice.

Lindsay, Brandon, and my Mom This image is of my Mom (Middle), my Sister Lindsay (Left), and my older brother Brandon (Right) all on top of a mountain facing away from the wonderful view. Sadly, the snow was a horrible factor because I couldn't get any higher than the point i took this image. Most of the view is blocked, But the family stays in focus. This makes the background less distracting so the viewers can focus on everyone in the image.
Of course, I can't leave out my Mom because she brought me into this world to begin with. But that is far from the main reasons of why she is on this list. My mom has steered me in the right direction several times when ever I mess up on something. She always has my back, no matter the situation. Brandon is here because he is my brother. That's it. Of course not! Brandon has been another type of role model for me to look up to. He has the same personality as me, and that just makes us closer and easier. He is the one who got me into Hunting and Fishing, and without those things I don't know what I would do in the Summer, Fall, or Winter. |
Mitchell Mitch has been one interesting little brother. Growing up, Him and I always did things together. Before he could really talk, I somehow understood him at just 1 year older than him. My mom would always tell me that no matter what he would say I would understand it because Mitch would nod in agreement. Now, he's more independent, but things haven't changed. Being able to watch him grow up I can see how my choices and actions have influence him, which is interesting because I really get to see my choices but in another person.

Kevin Kevin is Lindsay's Boyfriend. They've been dating for 3 1/2 years now, and Kevin has become part of the family already. Just imaging life without Kevin is a weird thought. He's been like a third brother to me since Brandon had first became friends with him in 7th grade. So as of April 2014, he has been in my life for nearly 6 years.

Cali This is Cali, the newest member to the Nardella Family. Well, the Nardella-McKenzie family since this adorable dog is actually Lindsay and Kevin's dog. She is included as family because there is no way i could say that she isn't. Any pets in our house are considered family, because dogs are a mans best friend after all. She is well trained and a strong dog. She might be the smallest lab I've ever seen, but she is entirely muscle. This tiny strong dog is just one Star in the Pets line-up.
